About Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) is one among the 23 IITs in India that's becoming a centre of excellence for training, research and development of science, engineering and technology.

Established in 1961 as an engineering college, the institute later announced an institute of national importance under the Technology Act (Amendment) of 1963 and was renamed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). It then had the status of an established university with the right to decide on its education policy, conduct its examinations and award its diploma.

Since its inception, over 48,000 graduates from IIT Delhi in many disciplines including engineering, physics, management and humanities and social sciences. Of these, about 5070 received their Ph.D. Degree is low. The number of students graduating with BTech. The degree exceeds 15738. The rest have master's degrees in engineering, science and business administration. These alumni today work as scientists, business managers, technologists, and entrepreneurs. There are many alumni who have moved away from their core subjects and taken to administrative services, active politics or are in NGOs. In doing so, they have contributed significantly to the creation of this nation and to industrialization worldwide.
