National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, commonly known as NLUJA Assam or NLUJAA, is a state law university located at Amingaon near Guwahati, Assam. It was established by the Government of Assam under legislation enacted in 2009 and is recognised as the first National Law University established in Northeast India.
The university focuses on legal education, research, professional training and judicial studies. It aims to provide modern legal education to students from Assam, Northeast India and other parts of the country.
The university offers the five-year integrated B.A. LL.B. (Honours) programme, postgraduate law programmes and doctoral-level research opportunities. Admissions to the B.A. LL.B. programme are primarily conducted through the Common Law Admission Test, commonly known as CLAT.
The B.A. LL.B. curriculum combines law with humanities and social-science subjects such as English, History, Economics, Political Science and Sociology. Law subjects may include constitutional law, criminal law, contract law, corporate law, family law, administrative law, international law, clinical legal education and optional specialisations.
